Silverstein Posts Career-High 17 Saves as Men’s Lacrosse Outlasts UMass, 8-7

AMHERST, Mass. – Colton Silverstein posted a career-high 17 saves, including a stop in the final seconds, as the University of Delaware men's lacrosse team outlasted UMass, 8-7, on Saturday at Garber Field. The Fightin' Blue Hens have now won three-straight games, improving to 4-7, 2-2 A-10, while the Minutemen drop to 9-4, 2-3 A-10.

HENS HIGHLIGHTS
- Silverstein made the game-winning save in the final seconds, while posting career bests in saves (17) and save percentage (.708).
- John McCurry recorded a team-high three points (two goals, one assist) to go with two ground balls and a caused turnover.
- Jack Kolbe and Keegan Lathrop each had multi-goal efforts, scoring two goals apiece.
- Brendan Powers notched two points (one goal, one assist) and corralled two ground balls.
- Scott Conte was superb at the faceoff X, winning 11-of-16 faceoffs and scooping 10 ground balls, tying the career mark he set last week.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UMass posted the only tally in the opening frame to lead 1-0 after the first 15 minutes.
- Delaware found its scoring touch in the second, getting two goals from Lathrop and one from Powers to counter two scores by the Minutemen that left a 3-3 tie at the break.
- McCurry potted his first goal of the day under a minute into the second half to give UD the lead back. Kolbe scored while man up to double the lead before UMass scored the next two to draw even at five with 6:19 left in the third quarter. McCurry, Kolbe, and Bennett Parmer struck for three-consecutive goals, giving UD an 8-5 lead heading into the fourth.
- The Minutemen broke the seal in the final frame with 11:39 left in regulation to cut it to 8-6. UMass scored its seventh goal with 6:52 remaining, bringing it to an 8-7 Delaware lead. The Minutemen had the ball with a chance to tie the game in the closing seconds, but Silverstein came up with a save as time expired to seal the victory for the Blue & Gold.
GAME NOTES
- UD improved to 47-3 when allowing nine or fewer goals under Ben DeLuca.
- The Hens jumped to 52-13 when leading after three quarters under DeLuca.
