Fran Orella Honored as NFHCA Division I Scholar of Distinction

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware field hockey squad continues to be honored for its dedication to academics as freshman Fran Orella (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) was named a Division I Scholar of Distinction by the NFHCA and Gladiator by SGI this past week.
Orella is one of eight student-athletes in the Colonial Athletic Association to earn this high honor in its first year of inception.
Rolf van de KerkhofStudent-athletes who were named to the Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division I Scholars of Distinction achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.90 or higher through the first semester of the 2013-14 academic year, which is the heart of the championship field hockey season.
Delaware posted a program-record 17 victories in 2013 in addition to earning both the CAA regular season and tournament championships en route to the fifth NCAA Tournament berth in school history.
