Delaware Football Hosting Annual Be the Match Bone Marrow Donation Event Monday at Trabant

NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware football team, in partnership with the UD women's volleyball team, the UD Student Nurses Association, and the UD Residence Assistants will host the sixth annual Be the Match bone marrow registry event this Monday, May 5.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Monday, May 5 in Multipurpose Room C of the Trabant University Center.
Last year's event brought in a record 570 registrations, shattering the previous high of 370. Delaware has had four matches during the drives, including former Blue Hen football student-athletes Paul Worrilow, now a member of the NFL Atlanta Falcons, and Corey Olsen.
Every year, thousands of people are diagnosed with blood related illnesses and they rely on the National Bone Marrow Registry to match them with donors to save their lives.
Entering the registry only requires some paper work and a simple mouth swab, which is less then a 20-minute process. For those who are matched with someone in the registry, a blood plasma donation is all it takes 75 percent of the time.
In the past five years, the Fightin' Blue Hens have entered more than 1,000 people in the National Bone Marrow Registry through the Get in the Game Save a Life program.
Students, faculty, staff and members of the community are invited to attend the event.
