UD Field Hockey Aims For Return to Win Column With Weekend Series Against Two BIG EAST Opponents

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware field hockey team looks to snap a three-game losing streak this coming weekend as the Blue Hens travel to Villanova Friday and will follow with a trip to Old Dominion Sunday.

HEN SCRATCHINGS
· The Blue Hens have lost three straight for the first time since November 2012.
· Allie Mikelson tied a school record with three defensive saves last Sunday against Cornell. Mikelson has tallied four total defensive saves this season.
· As a team, Delaware has six defensive saves through seven games played, the most since 2010 when the Hens posted seven in 18 games.
· Six Blue Hens have scored at least one goal this season while eight have tallied at least one point.
· Junior Michaela Patzner (Rosenheim, Germany/Karolinen Gymnasium) leads the team with 11 points on four goals and three assists. Patzner has 68 career points (27g, 14a), which is good to tie for 16th in Delaware history with Debbie White (1977-80) and Laura Domnick (1985-88).
· Emmeline Oltmans has started all seven games in the cage for Delaware and has tallied 27 saves with 22 goals allowed.
· A two-time BIG EAST Coach of the Year (1999, 2005), Joanie Milhous (William & Mary '91) is in her 20th season as the head coach at Villanova. Milhous has posted a career mark of 188-186 (.503) with eight BIG EAST Tournament appearances with the Wildcats.
· Andrew Griffiths (Western Ontario '94) is in his second season at the helm of ODU field hockey. In his first season as head coach at Old Dominion, Griffiths helped the Monarchs to their first BIG EAST regular season title en route to the program's fourth-straight NCAA appearance. Including six years at Lafayette, Griffiths holds a career record of 88-60 (.595).
ABOUT VILLANOVA
The Wildcats are 2-4 on the year and coming off of two straight losses, including a 5-2 defeat at the hand of Columbia last Saturday. Abigail Freitag leads the squad with seven points on two goals and team-high three assists while Jessica Swoboda is second with six points on three penalty stroke goals. Similar to the Hens, VU also has a freshman in the cage as Jordyn Clipstone has made all six starts with a 2.31 GAA and 33 saves.
ABOUT NO. 19 OLD DOMINION
After opening the year with a No. 9 preseason ranking, the Monarchs have fallen to No. 19 with a 2-4 record and all four losses coming to ranked opponents. Most recently, ODU defeated Monmouth, 3-0, at home. A former CAA foe, Old Dominion plays host to William & Mary Friday before welcoming the Blue Hens to Norfolk. Katy Fuhrman leads ODU with six points (3g) while Megan Byas (2g, 1a) and Rosario Villagra (1g, 3a), the 2013 BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year, each have five points. Megan Hept is the team's lone goalkeeper with 21 saves and a 1.63 goal allowed average.
