VILLANOVA, Pa. – The University of Delaware field hockey team bounced back into the win column Friday evening as the Blue Hens defeated Villanova, 3-0, at Villanova Stadium.
The two teams held a 0-0 tie through 48 minutes of play before Delaware sophomore Esmée Peet (Zeewolde, The Netherlands/RSG Slingerbos) recovered a penalty corner and turned an assist from classmate Meghan Winesett (Centreville, Va./Westfield) into the first goal of the game in the 49th minute.
In the 57th minute, two freshmen paired together to give the Blue Hens (4-4) a 2-0 advantage as Maggie Delp (Lewes, Del./Cape Henlopen) picked up her first career goal off Taylor Lister's (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) first career assist.
Delaware collected an insurance goal just eight minutes later as senior Kelsey McKee (Gap, Pa./Coatesville) capitalized on a Villanova yellow card on a penalty stroke goal for her first score of the year.
Freshman Emmeline Oltmans (Baarn, The Netherlands/Het Baarnsch Lyceum) collected five saves for the Hens in her eighth start of the season.
Jordyn Clipstone registered seven saves in the loss for Villanova (3-4).
“Tonight was a great team performance. I am proud of the players and glad all of them were in the position to play in this game. They executed the game plan well, remained calm when the scoring opportunities didn't go in early, played team defense and took charge of the game in the second half.”
