NEWARK, Del. -- Thanks to consecutive victories over Delaware State and Colgate, the University of Delaware football squad has returned to the national Top 25.
The Blue Hens (2-1), who open Colonial Athletic Association play this Saturday at James Madison (2-2), are ranked No. 25 in this week's The Sports Network media poll. Delaware received 181 points to move into the Top 25 for the first time since a No. 21 ranking last Nov. 11.
Delaware was among six CAA teams ranked in the top 25, joining No. 4 New Hampshire, No. 6 Villanova, No. 12 William & Mary, No. 20 Richmond, and No. 24 Albany. Towson, James Madison, and Maine also earned votes in the media poll but did not crack the Top 25. Eight of the conference's 12 teams have now been ranked in the TSN poll for at least one week in 2014.
Two-time defending national champion North Dakota State earned 150 of the 159 first place votes and remained at No. 1 in the poll. Eastern Washington earned the other nine first place votes and was ranked No. 2 followed by Coastal Carolina, New Hampshire, McNeese State, Villanova, Montana, Jacksonville State, South Dakota State, and Northern Iowa in the Top 10.
Southeastern Louisiana was at No. 11 followed by William & Mary, Montana State, Chattanooga, Bethune-Cookman, Fordham, Southern Illinois, Youngstown State, Eastern Kentucky, Richmond, Tennessee State, Liberty, Illinois State, Albany, and Delaware.
The Blue Hens will return to action from a bye week as they head to Harrisonburg, Va. to take on the Dukes Saturday at 4 p.m. The game will be televised live on Comcast SportsNet throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region. Delaware defeated JMU 29-22 last year at Delaware Stadium and the Hens will be making their first trip to Harrisonburg since a 13-10 win in 2010.
