University of Delaware Volleyball Opens Harvard Invitational with 3-1 Victory Over Central Connecticut

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Blue Hen sophomore Autumn Jenkins and junior Katie Hillman combined for 34 kills on the afternoon to lead the University of Delaware volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over Central Connecticut Friday on the first day of the Harvard Invitational.
The Blue Hens, who moved back over the .500 mark with a 3-2 record, claimed the victory by set scores of 25-22, 25-18, 25-27, 25-22.
Jenkins posted a team-high 18 kills on the day, one shy of her career-high, while making just three attack errors as she hit .319 during the victory. Hillman contributed a season-best 16 kills, while sophomore Alexa Swann added 11 kills against two errors to finish with a .474 attack percentage.
Sophomore setters Erin Layne and Julia Anderson each tied their season-highs in assists, as Layne finished with 35 while Anderson added 21 helpers. Classmate Taylor Hollingsworth contributed 21 digs as she again led the squad in that category, while Jenkins added 11 to post her second career double-double.
Central Connecticut, which remained winless at 0-5 this season, was led by Heather Trueman with 22 kills.
Delaware never trailed in the opening set, while the Blue Hens broke an 18-18 deadlock in the second by winning the final seven points. UD let a 24-19 lead slip away and squandered the third set, before rebounding to take the fourth to close out the win.
Match Notes:
• Chandler Bryant, Daria Robinson and Jill Meyers each had six kills for UD, with Bryant and Robinson adding five blocks each
• Eight different Blue Hens recorded a block during the win
• Four Blue Devils reached double figures digs, including a team-high 18 from Rachel Fish
• Delaware improved to 8-1 all time vs. the Blue Devils
• Delaware faces Santa Clara at 10 a.m. and the host Crimson at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Harvard Invitational
