Distance Medley Leads Delaware at Armory Collegiate Track Invitational

NEW YORK -- The University of Delaware distance medley relay team was the top finisher for the Blue Hens Friday as UD began competition at the Armory Collegiate Invitational Friday the New York Armory.
Delaware competed in six events on Friday with the distance medley relay team of Liz McGroarty, Tyra Reid, Angie Spadaccini, and Melissa Mazzo highlighting the action with a 12th place finish with a time of 12:18.01.
“We had some personal best performances and I am pleased by the ladies' efforts today,” said Delaware head coach Wendy McFarlane. “With a good night's rest I think they will have even better performances tomorrow.”
Other top finishers for the Hens on Friday were Becky Gessler placing 20th in the 5,000 meters (18:23.27), LaToya James placing 30th in the 60 meter hurdles (8.89), and Alexandra Carroll finishing 35th in the 500 meters (1:18.65).
Delaware will continue action at the meet Saturday with the Hens competing in five events beginning at 8:55 a.m. Members of the Blue Hens will also be competing at the John Covert Classic at Lehigh University beginning at 10 a.m.
