Delaware Welcomes Towson and No. 12 ODU for Senior Weekend

NEWARK, Del. – No. 15 Delaware looks to halt a two-game losing streak and will host Towson in CAA play Friday before taking on No. 12 Old Dominion Sunday.
ACADEMIC ADVISORS THANKSGIVING
In addition to Senior Day, the Delaware field hockey program will celebrate all of the team's academic advisors on Sunday. The Blue Hens are excited to share its appreciation to all of the academic advisors whom provide guidance and support to the UD field hockey student-athletes.

Admission is free and open to the public for all home regular season Delaware field hockey games held at Fred P. Rullo Stadium.

LAST TIME OUT
It all came down to a penalty stroke in the 75th minute Sunday afternoon at Fred P. Rullo Stadium as No. 15 Delaware battled No. 5 Virginia, but came up short in a 3-2 decision. Esmée Peet gave the Blue Hens (11-4) the 2-1 advantage in the 64th minute off a penalty corner with assists from Kiki Bink and Allie Mikelson. The Cavaliers (12-3) would not concede, however, as Greta Ell posted the equalizer just five minutes later. Tara Vittese then posted the game-winner with 74:11 on the clock off a penalty stroke for UVA. Kayla Devlin was also credited with a goal for the Blue Hens in the fifth minute while Greta Nauck earned the assist. Goalie Emmeline Oltmans logged seven saves while Mikelson and Maura Zarkoski each picked up defensive saves.
HEN SCRATCHINGS
· Delaware is currently ranked No. 15 in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Coaches Poll.
· The Blue Hens have been ranked in the NFHCA Top 20 in each week since September 8 and are No. 16 in the NCAA Field Hockey RPI.
· UD has reached the 11-win mark for the 24th time in program history and sixth since 2001.
· The Blue Hens are currently ranked seventh nationally in scoring average (3.68) and points per game (10.4). They are also eighth with 2.93 assists per game and 14th with a 1.38 scoring margin.
· Delaware is 0-2 in overtime contests this season, both of which came against Top 20 opponents.
· Michaela Patzner is fourth in program history with 111 career points (42g, 27a). Casey Howard (2005-09) is third all-time with 115 points (51g, 13a).
· Patzner's 27 assists ties her for fourth in the record books with Sara Hills (1996-99) while her 42 goals ties for seventh alongside Missy Meharg (1981-84). Melissa Hefner (1993-96) is sixth with 43 goals while Anne Wilkinson (1982-85) is fifth with 44.
· With a goal against Virginia, Esmée Peet now sits alone in 13th place in program history with 81 career points (34g, 13a). Beth Manley (1983-86) is 12th with 84 points (33g, 18a).
· Allie Mikelson is the all-time career leader in Blue Hens history with 15 defensive saves and ranked ninth nationally with four defensive saves on the year.
· Lisa Giezeman and Esmée Peet both lead Delaware with 22 points on 10 goals and two assists while Patzner is third with seven goals and seven assists for 21 points.
· This season is the 45th overall in program history. Delaware has tallied a composite record of 490-316-39 (.604) with 28 10-plus-win seasons.
SERIES INFORMATION
· The Blue Hens are 34-17-2 all-time against this weekend's opponents.
· Delaware holds a commanding 32-5-1 lead in the all-time series and has won four straight against the Tigers. Last season, the Hens came from behind to defeat Towson, 2-1, at Johnny Unitas Stadium.
· Dating to the 1981 season, UD is 2-12-1 overall against Old Dominion. Former CAA rivals, the Monarchs have won four straight over Delaware, including a 2-1 overtime victory last season in Norfolk, Va. The Hens last win came on Oct. 2, 2009 as No. r/v Delaware shutout No. 12 ODU, 4-0, at Rullo Stadium.
· Delaware alumna Carly Campana '05 is in her third season along the sidelines for the Towson field hockey program. Campana was a midfielder for the Blue Hens 2004 CAA Championship squad that advanced to the NCAA Tournament. She was also an assistant coach for UD under Carol Miller during the 2009 and 2010 seasons.
· Andrew Griffiths (Western Ontario '94) is in his third season at the helm of ODU field hockey. In his first season as head coach at Old Dominion, Griffiths helped the Monarchs to their first BIG EAST regular season title en route to the program's fourth-straight NCAA appearance. Including six years at Lafayette, Griffiths holds a career record of 104-67 (.608).
ABOUT TOWSON
The Tigers (2-12, 0-3 CAA) are currently amidst a five-game losing streak as they enter weekend play. In the past three contests, Towson has been outscored, 14-0, against William & Mary, Hofstra and La Salle. Junior Morgan Skavdahl (3g) and seniors Stacey Mackintosh (3g) and Heather Jenney (2g, 2a) lead the squad with six points each while junior Sam Zelenack has a team-best three assists on the year. The Tigers sit atop the conference with 159 saves this season as junior Megan Boyle and sophomore Emilee Woodall have shared duties in the cage. Boyle leads the league with a .758 save percentage and is second in saves (75) and seventh in goals against average (3.15). Woodall is fourth in the CAA in saves (70), fifth in save percentage (.680) and ninth in goals against average (5.09).
ABOUT NO. 12 OLD DOMINION
The Monarchs opens the weekend after suffering three consecutive 1-0 losses to move to 8-6 on the year before facing Villanova Friday and Delaware Sunday. ODU has not been shutout in three straight since 1976 when the team dropped five straight shutouts. Senior Sarah Breen guides Old Dominion with 23 points on 10 goals and three assists while freshman Chrissy Horn has posted a team-best five assists on the year. Freshman Kealsie Robles has played 861 minutes between the pipes for the Monarchs and has allowed 1.55 goals a game with a save percentage of .648.
