NEWARK, Del. – Freshman Greta Nauck (Krefeld, Germany/Gymnasium am Moltkeplatz) was just one of four players with multiple points Friday night as No. 15 Delaware cruised past Towson, 9-0, in CAA action at Fred P. Rullo Stadium.
Nauck logged her first career hat trick in addition to an assist for a season-best seven points. The rookie midfielder also registered 14 shots, including 10 on goal.
Sophomore Taylor Lister (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) tied a career-high with two goals of her own while freshman Kiki Bink (Wageningen, The Netherlands/RSG Slingerbos) and senior Allie Mikelson (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) each posted two assists for the Hens (12-4, 3-1 CAA).
Also getting goals for Delaware were juniors Esmée Peet (Zeewolde, The Netherlands/RSG Slingerbos), Maura Zarkoski (Eagleville, Pa./Villa Maria) and Meghan Winesett (Centreville, Va./Westfield) and sophomore Krissy Mikelson (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) while senior Maddie O'Beirne (Vienna, Va./George C. Marshall) collected an assist.
Sophomore goalie Emmeline Oltmans (Baarn, The Netherlands/Het Baarnsch Lyceum) did not see a single Towson shot in her fourth career shutout victory.
The Tigers (2-13, 0-4 CAA) notched 19 total saves from Emilee Woodall, Megan Boyle and Stacey Mackintosh.
“This was a great opportunity for us to take care of business in the CAA and punch our ticket to the CAA Tournament. We played our game tonight. In our game plan, we don't worry about who we play. We respect our opponent, but we play our own game. We were able to play 18 players today, which shows that we can play for each other and with each other. We believe that you enjoy the result until midnight and then we have to get back at it. Sunday is it's own game and we know we have to prepare to play Delaware field hockey again.”
Freshman Greta Nauck
“We had a great team performance tonight and we were really happy that we could get the win. My parents are here [from Germany] for family weekend, so it's great to be able to give them the win. We focus on and practice a lot of penalty corners, so it's nice to see that translate into our game. We're proud of our performance and this gives us confidence, but we need to play with the same enthusiasm on Sunday.”
