Delaware Sweeps George Mason to Stay Unbeaten; UD Men Win on Final Race

NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware swimming and diving teams had nine multiple event winners Saturday as the Blue Hens stayed unbeaten by sweeping George Mason at Rawstrom Natatorium.
The Delaware women (3-0) overpowered the Patriots by a 186-109 score while the Blue Hen men (2-0) edged George Mason by a 157-137 verdict, capturing the meet on the last event of the day by defeating Mason by less than one second in the 400 freestyle relay.
The Blue Hen women had six multiple event winners led by senior Morgan Whyte (St. John's College/Chevy Chase, Md.) and freshman Mina Feyrer (Whitehall/Whitehall, Pa.) who were both in on three victories. Whyte captured the 50 freestyle (23.71) and 100 freestyle (51.96) while Feyrer touched the wall first in the 100 butterfly (58.25) and 200 butterfly (2:04.15). Both also teamed with junior Alyssa Santangelo (Souderton/Harleysville, Pa.) and junior Annie Nunes (Charter/Wilmington, Del.) to win the 200 medley relay (1:46.56).
Other multiple Blue Hen winners were senior Dominique Montoya (Ridley/Morton, Pa.) in the 200 freestyle (1:53.24) and 500 freestyle (5:08.79); senior Alyssa Sanders (Milford/Dover, Del.) in the 100 backstroke (58.55) and 200 backstroke (2:05.75); and senior Kristina Congdon (Pennsbury/Yardley, Pa.) in the three-meter dive (295.65) and one-meter dive (270.82). Nunes also won the 100 breaststroke (1:06.43).
For the Delaware men, junior Alex Hillsley (State College/Port Matilda, Pa.) captured three individual first place finishes as he won the 100 backstroke (51.69), 200 backstroke (1:51.41), and the 200 individual medley (1:53.50). Also for the Delaware men, junior Cory Camp (Blake/Olney, Md.) won both the 500 freestyle (4:43.96) and 1,000 freestyle (9:43.30) and teamed up to win the 400 freestyle relay (3:08.23) and senior Luke Winkler (St. John's College/Bethesda, Md.) swept the diving competition with wins in both the one-meter (272.85 points) and three-meter (330.52) events.
Both Delaware teams will continue action next weekend, Oct. 31-Nov. 1, by hosting UNCW, James Madison, and William & Mary in a Colonial Athletic Association Pod Meet.
