NEWARK, Del. -- For the third time this season, University of Delaware redshirt freshman running back Thomas Jefferson is the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week.
Jefferson, a 6-2, 215 lb. criminal justice major from Prospect Park, N.J. (Passaic Tech), was honored for his outstanding performance in leading Delaware to a 31-14 CAA victory over defending league champion New Hampshire last Saturday at Delaware Stadium.
In addition to the CAA honor, Jefferson also was named to the STATS FCS National Honor Roll for Freshman Player of the Week honors for the second time this season.
He previously was honored as CAA Rookie of the Week in games vs. North Carolina (Sept. 26) and William & Mary (Oct. 3) and also earned the STATS honor for the North Carolina game.
Jefferson carried 26 times for 98 yards and three touchdowns, including the go-ahead score from seven yards out as Delaware outscored New Hampshire 25-0 in the second half. Jefferson also caught two passes for 41 yards as part of a 139-yard, 18-point day.
Also honored by the CAA were Offensive Player of the Week running back Jacobi Green of Richmond; Defensive Player of the Week defensive lineman Trevor Bates of Maine; and Special Teams Player of the Week kicker Nick Dorka of William & Mary.
Georgetown safety Jethro Francois was named the STATS National Freshman of the Week while Jefferson was joined on the honor roll by QB Case Cookus of Northern Arizona and QB Easton Stick of North Dakota State.
Delaware (3-4, 2-2 CAA) will continue action this Saturday as the Blue Hens head to CAA rival Towson (4-3, 2-2 CAA) for a 2 p.m. kickoff at Unitas Stadium.
