Delaware Athletes Win Seven Events at First Day of CAA Pod Meet

NEWARK, Del. -- University of Delaware swimmers and divers picked up seven victories during the first day of the Colonial Athletic Association Pod Meet hosted by the Blue Hens Saturday at Rawstrom Natatorium at the Carpenter Sports Building.
The Delaware women (3-0) currently lead UNCW and William & Mary and trail James Madison after the first day of competition while the Blue Hen men (2-0) trail UNCW and William & Mary after the first day.
The final day of competition gets underway at 10 a.m. Sunday with races behind held in the 500 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, and 400 freestyle relay events.
The Blue Hen women picked up five first place finishes and 12 top three showings Saturday while the UD men won two events and had eight top three finishes.
Morgan Whyte and Alyssa Sanders were multiple UD winners on Saturday as they teamed with Dominique Montoya and Jordan Sawyer to win the 200 freestyle relay (1:35.07) and Whyte went on to win the 50 freestyle (23.71) and Sanders the 100 backstroke (56.98). Madeline Maher also won the 400 individual medley (4:31.20) while Caitlin Stockwell captured the one-meter diving event (274.25 points).
Annie Nunes was second in the 200 individual medley (2:07.79) and third in the 400 medley relay (3:52.60), 200 medley relay (1:46.96), and 100 breaststroke (1:05.94) while Montoya was second in the 200 freestyle (1:53.83), Sanders was third in the 400 medley relay (3:52.60), Whyte was third in the 200 medley relay (1:46.96), and Sarah Braatz was second in the 1,650 freestyle (17:33.01) and third in the 400 medley relay.
On the men's side, Cory Camp won the 1,650 freestyle (16:18.89) and was second in the 200 freestyle (1:42.98), Luke Winkler won the three-meter dive (294.55), Alex Tooley was second in the 400 individual medley (4:04.93) and third in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.20), and Alex Hillsley was third in both the 200 individual medley(1:54.59) and 100 backstroke (52.38).
