Peet Pilots 4-2 Win at Hofstra

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – For the third time this season, junior Esmée Peet (Zeewolde, The Netherlands/RSG Slingerbos) collected two goals as the No. 13 Blue Hens put a halt to Hofstra's eight-game winning streak Friday afternoon by a score of 4-2.
With the win, Delaware improves to 11-2 on the year and 2-1 in Colonial Athletic Association action while Hofstra falls to 10-4 overall and 0-1 in league play.
Peet capitalized off a penalty corner situation and scored the lone tally of the first half in the seventh minute. Classmate Meghan Winesett (Centreville, Va./Westfield) and senior Allie Mikelson (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) were credited with assists on the play.
Freshman Greta Nauck (Krefeld, Germany/Gymnasium am Moltkeplatz) gave the Hens the 2-0 lead in the 38th minute after rebounding a shot and tapping it in to the lower left side of the cage.
The Pride kept things close, picking up their first goal of the game in the 42nd minute before UD freshman Lisa Giezeman (Leidschendam, The Netherlands/Sin-Maartens College) scored from the left side of the crease in the 58th minute to go up, 3-1.
HU followed with Stella Schoen's 11th goal of the year in the 60th minute.
In the 65th minute, Delaware successfully converted on another penalty corner as Mikelson and junior Maura Zarkoski (Eagleville, Pa./Villa Maria) connected with Peet for the final of 4-2.
As a team, the Hens collected three defensive saves from Mikelson, Zarkoski and senior Janell Holmes (Harrisburg, Pa./Harrisburg Christian). Sophomore goalie Emmeline Oltmans (Baarn, The Netherlands/Het Baarnsch Lyceum) added two more saves in the victory.

HEN SCRATCHINGS
· Delaware has reached the 11-win mark for the 24th time in program history and sixth since 2001.
· The Blue Hens have won five of the last seven and improves to 23-7 all-time against the Pride.
· UD was outshot for the first time in a win this season by a mark of 17-14. The Hens held a 6-4 advantage in penalty corners.
· Esmée Peet moved into a tied for 13th all-time with 79 career points (33g, 13a). Jodi Byrd (1995-98) finished her career with 79 points on 35 goals and nine assists.
· With 14 career defensive saves, Allie Mikelson is now the all-time career leader for the Blue Hens.
· Following Sunday's game against Liberty, the Blue Hens will host their second PeeWee Hockey experience, which introduces kids to the sport of field hockey. The event is free and open to all first through fifth graders. Sticks and balls will be provided for those in attendance and no advance registration is required.
