Blue Hens No. 12 in Final NFHCA Poll of Season

CHANDLER, Ariz. – After clinching its third straight CAA Championship, Delaware enters NCAA Tournament play ranked No. 12 in the final Penn Monto/NFHCA Coaches Poll of the season.
The Blue Hens (16-5) earned the CAA's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament after defeating James Madison, 2-1, in an overtime thriller in the league's title game Sunday.
Delaware received 329 points to move up three spots to No. 12, a slot where the Blue Hens previously resided for the week of September 22.
There was also movement in the top five as North Carolina (18-2) took over the No. 1 ranking with 786 points and nine first place votes while Syracuse (17-1) slipped to No. 2 with 780 votes and 21 first place votes. Connecticut (20-0) is now in third while Virginia (14-5) moved up to fourth and Maryland (19-3) is in fifth.
The Hens have been ranked in the NFHCA Top 20 in each week since September 8. Delaware is ranked No. 14 in this week's NCAA Field Hockey RPI.
UD is currently fourth nationally with 3.85 goals per game and eighth with a scoring margin of 1.83. The Hens are also fourth in points per game (10.81), fifth in assists per game (3.0) and ninth with 10.0 defensive saves.
Delaware next travels to Charlottesville, Va. to face third-seeded Virginia in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
The winner of Saturday's first game will take on the victor of the 2 p.m. contest between Duke (12-6) and Stanford (13-6). Sunday's second round game is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
