Delaware Women Win 13 Events, Sweep LaSalle, Rider; UD Men Fall to Explorers, Broncs

PHILADELPHIA -- The University of Delaware women's swimming and diving team captured 13 first place finishes and overwhelmed Rider and host La Salle in a non-league tri-meet Saturday afternoon at Kirk Pool.
The Delaware women (7-1) posted wins of 220-79 over La Salle and 228-38 over Rider while the Blue Hen men (3-3) dropped decisions of 181-118 to La Salle and 200.5-96.5 to Rider. The Delaware women have now downed LaSalle 11 straight times and Rider 13 straight times. The Delaware men had streaks of seven straight wins over La Salle and six straight victories over Rider snapped.
The Blue Hen women had six multiple-event winners as junior Annie Nunes (Wilmington, Del./Charter) and senior Morgan Whyte (Chevy Chase, Md./St. John's College HS) each had four wins, senior Alyssa Sanders (Dover, Del./Milford) won three events, and senior Dominique Montoya (Morton, Pa./Ridley), senior Kristina Congdon (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury), and freshman Mina Feyrer (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) each had two victories.
Nunes won the 100 breaststroke (1:06.77), 200 breaststroke (2:24.80), 200 individual medley (2:10.43) and 200 medley relay (1:48.21); Whyte captured the 50 freestyle (24.18), 200 freestyle (53.23), 400 freestyle relay (3:37.11), and 200 medley relay; Sanders won the 200 medley relay, 100 backstroke (58.74), and 200 backstroke (2:06.35); Montoya captured the 200 freestyle (1:54.02) and 400 freestyle relay; Congdon won the three-meter (297.70 points) and one-meter (264.85) diving events; and Feyrer was the winner in the 100 butterfly (59.07) and the 200 medley relay.
Delaware did not capture any first place finishes on the men's side but did get a big effort from Alex Hillsley (Port Matilda, Pa./State College Area HS) who posted three second place finishes. He was second in the 100 backstroke (52.27), 200 backstroke (1:53.36), and 200 individual medley (1:57.00).
Delaware also got third place finishes in the 200 medley relay (1:35.72) and 400 freestyle relay (3:12.43), and from Cory Camp in the 1,000 freestyle (9:52.52), Thomas Scott in the 200 butterfly (1:58.19), Nicholas Badsky in the 100 freestyle (47.70),
Both UD teams will return to action Nov. 20-22 at the Franklin & Marshall Swimming Invitational and at the Bucknell Diving Invitational.
