NEW YORK -- A pair of University of Delaware freshmen led the way for the Blue Hens and the 4 x 200 meter relay set a school record Saturday as UD closed out action at the Armory Collegiate Indoor Track & Field Invitational at the New York Armory.
Latazah Coleman (Appoquinimink/Middletown, Del./at right) was the Hens' top finisher at the
two-day event as she placed eighth in the 200 meters with a time of 24.80 in the finals. She posted a personal best with a time of 24.53 in the preliminaries to advance to the finals. That time is third best in UD history.
Liz McGroarty (Garnet Valley/Glen Mills, Pa.) posted Delaware's other top individual finish as she placed 28th overall in the 800 meters with a time of 2:16.46, setting a new UD freshman record in the event. She broke the previous record of 2:18.0 set by Lindsay Prettyman in 2011.
Delaware runners also recorded two top 20 finishes in relay events as the 4 x 200m relay team of Chelsi Campbell, Tyler Jackson, Latoya James, and Alexandra Carroll ran to a time of 1:45.22 - breaking the record of 1:47.27 set in 1984.
The Blue Hens' 4 x 400m relay squad of Kelley Donovan, Breanna Nicholson, Carolyn Darr, and Tyra Reid finished 18th in 3:53.48.
