WILMINGTON, Del. – Freshman Shane Jeffray (Manasquan, N.J./Wall Township) recorded his second straight victory Sunday afternoon, but the University of Delaware men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Bucknell University in front of a strong crowd at DuPont Country Club.
Jeffray registered a 7-6 (3), 6-2 win over Bryan Adams in No. 2 singles for the Blue Hens' lone triumph of the day. In his rookie campaign, Jeffray holds a 3-3 career record.
With the loss, Delaware falls to 0-5 on the year while Bucknell opened its season with a 1-0 record.
“Shane [Jeffray] played a phenomenal match today. He came back this spring healthy and motivated at practice and his hard work showed with his success on the court. We had tremendous support from the community today and the fans really rallied behind our team. I cannot thank our supporters enough. With all of the changes being made in college tennis, it is exciting and reassuring to see such a great turnout at our matches.”
