“I am excited to join such an accomplished program,” Maddox commented. “The coaching staff has done a tremendous job building a winning culture and I look forward to finding new ways to help the program grow. It is evident that the University of Delaware takes great pride in the development of each student-athlete. It's this overall outlook and the people involved that made me want to become a Fightin' Blue Hen.”
Maddox joins the Blue Hens after serving five seasons as the head coach at Ball State University. She is no stranger to the Colonial Athletic Association as she is a 2005 graduate of Old Dominion University, where she played for the Lady Monarchs during their tenure in the conference.
“Our program is very excited to welcome Beth Maddox,” remarked Van de Kerkhof. “Beth will bring a lot of qualities to us thanks to her experiences and expertise cumulated over her years of competing and coaching at the NCAA Division I level. Winning conference championships and a national championship while being a student-athlete at Old Dominion and playing different roles within the Lady Monarchs squads will provide Beth a great opportunity to relate to and share with our players as we are about to take the next step in our program's development and success opportunities. As a former assistant and head coach, Beth has obtained understanding in how to recruit quality prospective student-athletes, to coach a players group, to assist the players in their development as students and young people and how to manage all aspects of a field hockey program.”
Van de Kerkhof continued, “I am confident that Beth's addition to our coaching staff will allow the University of Delaware field hockey program to further make progress in pursuing our mission statement and competing for Blue Hen pride on and off the playing field.”
Maddox arrived in Muncie, Ind. as the sixth head coach in Cardinals program history in March 2010. Under her direction, BSU garnered 25 victories while boasting the 2013 MAC Rookie of the Year alongside two MAC First Team, six Second Team selections and multiple academic accolades.

As a student-athlete at Old Dominion, Maddox was a four-year letterwinner for the field hockey team.
As a midfielder, she played in 77 games, starting 66, and accumulated seven goals and two assists in her career. During Maddox's time at Old Dominion, the field hockey team made consecutive NCAA tournament appearances and won the national championship in 2000.
