Delaware Sets Three School Records on Day One of CAA Swimming Championships

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Delaware swimming teams began the Colonial Athletic Association Swimming Championship on a high note as the Blue Hens set three new school records Wednesday night at the Richmond Aquatic Center.
In the first race of the night, the UD women's 200 medley relay team of Alyssa Sanders, Annie Nunes, Kristen Bishop, and Morgan Whyte tallied a second place finish with a school-record time of 1:40.54. The previous record was 1:41.32 and it was set in last year's CAA Championship. Sanders, Nunes, and Whyte were also members of that relay team along with former Blue Hen Mary Kay Harris.
The second school record of the night was registered by the women's 800 freestyle relay team comprised of Brittany Lazear, Sarah Braatz, Laura Askin, and Dominique Montoya. The squad managed to finish in a Delaware-record time of 7:17.78, which was good for a third place finish in the event. The previous record in the women's 800 freestyle relay of 7:27.05 was also set by Lazear, Montoya, Askin, and Harris in last year's CAA Championship.
The Delaware men's 800 freestyle relay team of Cory Camp, Alex Hillsley, Alex Tooley, and Everett Albert capped off the night with the third school record of the evening. The Hens registered a time of 6:36.78 and finished in fourth place.The previous record was set in the 2013 CAA Championship when the relay team of Ryan Roberts, Sihan Liu, Matthew Marquez, and Paul Gallagher posted a time of 6:37.95.
The Delaware women's record-setting performance leaves the Blue Hens in third place with 66 points, which is just six points behind first place Towson.
After one day of races, the UD men sit in sixth place with 56 points. William & Mary leads the men's competition with 80 points.
HEN SCRATCHINGS:
- The Delaware men's 200 medley relay team of Tim Ware, Patrick Savidge, Tomas Elder, and Nicholas Badsky finished in sixth place with a time of 1:29.79.
- Cory Camp set a Delaware record in the first leg of the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:38.36.
- The CAA Championship will continue Thursday with the men's and women's 500 freestyle, 50 freestyle, 200 IM, and the 200 freestyle relay events.

6th Place: Ware, Savidge, Elder, Badsky – 200 medley relay (1:29.79)

Women:

3rd Place: Lazear, Braatz, Askin, Montoya – 800 freestyle relay (7:17.78)
