RICHMOND, Va. – On the fourth and final day of the Colonial Athletic Association Championship at the Richmond Aquatic Center, the University of Delaware swimming and diving teams set three more school records as the men's squad finished fifth, while the women tallied a fourth place finish in the overall standings.
With a total of 720 points, Towson won the women's competition for the seventh time in eight years while William & Mary was able to curtail UNCW's unprecedented dominance and take home the title with 784.5 points.
John Hayman. “We were conference champions in a few events and Tim Ware set a new conference record. We had the most number of swimmers qualifying for finals ever. In total, we had 17 school records ann had 10 swimmers make NCAA "B" and US Nationals qualifying standards in multiple events. We had outstanding relay performances with several
second place finishes that were just tenths of a second out of first. We were a very disciplined, focused, and motivated team that rose the occasion at the right time.”
Morgan Whyte (left) won her second race and set her second individual school record of the championship Saturday as the junior set a new UD record in the 100 freestyle with a time of 49.44. The previous record of 50.11 was established by teammate Dominique Montoya at last season's CAA Championship.
Montoya, Whyte, Alyssa Sanders, and Brittany Lazear swam the 400 freestyle relay in 3:20.79, which was enough for a second place finish and a new school record. The old record of 3:22.72 was posted by Montoya, Whyte, Maggie Tracy, and Mary Kay Harris at the 2014 CAA Championship.
In the men's 1650 freestyle event Saturday, Delaware swam three of the four fastest times in
school history. Cory Camp set a new UD record in the race with a time of 15:26.64, which broke his own record of 15:29.29 set at the CAA Championship last season.
Alex Tooley (right) swam the race in 15:34.51 and Patrick Savidge registered a time of 15:38.42, which marks the third and fourth fastest times in Blue Hen history.
After setting a new school and meet record in the 100 backstroke Friday, Ware put up another impressive performance Saturday. The senior finished fourth in the 200 backstroke in a time of 1:45.70, which is the second fastest time in Delaware history.
