PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The University of Delaware softball team will open its Colonial Athletic Association schedule this weekend when the Blue Hens make the short trip north to face Drexel in a three-game series.
The Blue Hens and Dragons will play a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday and a 12 noon single game on Sunday at the Drexel Softball Field.
Delaware is 13-8 on the season, and the Blue Hens have won eight of their last 11 games including three straight. Drexel has split 12 games so far this year, and the Dragons are coming off a successful weekend at the North Carolina A&T Tournament in which they won three of four contests.
The Blue Hens and Dragons have played one common opponent this year, as Delaware defeated North Carolina A&T, 7-1, on Feb. 28 while Drexel edged the Aggies, 3-2 in eight innings, last Friday.
Delaware won four of six home games during the last week, including Wednesday's doubleheader sweep of Morgan State. Lisa Stacevicz went 10 for 17 at the plate during the homestand, hitting safely in all six games while recording five doubles and a home run.
Jessica Grisler is hitting .408 on the season with team-highs of 31 hits and 22 runs scored, and could break school records in both categories this weekend. Grisler's 204 hits are one shy of the UD record while her 117 runs scored are two shy of the UD mark, both currently held by Mandy Welch.
Mariah Kondravy is batting .394 on the year with a team-leading eight doubles and 17 RBI for Delaware, while Sarah Bencivenga carries a .302 batting average into the weekend.
Carolyn Szymanski is 8-4 with a 2.94 earned run average in the circle for the Blue Hens, and is coming off a two-hit shutout of Morgan State. Jordan Cargile is 2-1 with a 3.83 ERA, while Kelly Lupton has allowed just one earned run in eight innings of work.
Leticia Matsuoka, the current CAA Player of the Week, paces the Drexel lineup with a .459 batting average as she leads the squad with 17 hits and 10 runs scored. Alyssa Williamson is hitting .417 on the season for the Dragons, who feature eight players hitting over .300 and a .331 team batting average. Taylor Lee is 4-3 with a 1.30 earned run average to lead Drexel in the circle.
The Blue Hens and Dragons have faced each other during every season since 1983, while Delaware has taken nine of the 12 meetings under head coach Jaime Wohlbach.
