Late Rally, Woods' Shutout Seals Softball's 11th Win in a Row

NEWARK, Del. - University of Delaware softball extended its win streak to 11 with a 2-0 win over Maryland on Thursday, April 21. The win was Delaware's second against Maryland this season and improved its record to 27-19 overall.
HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Allie Nankivell had two hits, an RBI, and a stolen base.
- Maddie Diamond also had two hits.
- Katie Scheivert and Jamie Chandler each had hits. Chandler had a double in the bottom of the sixth.
- Ryleigh Thomas and Marlayna Capaldi each had a stolen base.
- Claire Woods pitched all seven innings with seven strikeouts and allowed just four hits and no walks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Woods had five strikeouts in the first two innings, including three in the first.
- She allowed a hit in the third and worked around an error in the fourth and picked up another strikeout.
- Woods pitched hitless innings in the fifth and sixth.
- Chandler had a one-out double in the sixth before being pinch-run for by Thomas. With Thomas and third and Capaldi at first, Delaware executed a double steal to allow Thomas to score and give UD a 1-0 lead. Nankivell then singled in Capaldi to make the score 2-0.
- Two runners reached to lead off the seventh against Woods. An infield fly and a line-drive double play to second turned by Scheivert ended the game.
GAME NOTES
- Delaware's 11-game win streak is its fifth-longest in program history. UD also had a 12-game win streak in 2025 and won 13 in a row in 2024.
- This was Delaware's 10th consecutive win at home, tied for the third longest program history. UD also had a 10-game home win streak in 2025 and won 11 straight in 2024.
- Delaware has defeated Maryland twice in a season for the first time in program history. This was Delaware's first win at home over Maryland.
- This was Delaware's third win against a Big Ten team this season and 10th all-time. Delaware has won three games against the Big Ten in the same season for the first time in program history.
- Of Delaware's six wins all-time against Maryland, four have been shutouts.
- Delaware improved to 78-23 in the month of April under Jen Steele.
- This was Delaware's seventh shutout of the season and 70th under Steele.
- Delaware has won 15 of its last 17 games.
- Nankivell extended her on-base streak to 25 games. She has a .578 on base percentage over the streak and is hitting .434/.571/.453 since moving to the leadoff spot in 17 games on March 20.
- Nankivell recorded her 12th multi-hit game of the season and Diamond had her ninth.
- Woods threw her third career shutout and her first since March 20, 2024 against Austin Peay while a member of Middle Tennesee State.
- Woods tied her season-high in strikeouts with seven, also done on April 4 against UTEP.
- Delaware is on an 11-game winning streak, trailing Delaware State (13) and UCLA (12) for longest in Division I. Oregon and Nebraska are also on an 11-game win streak.
UP NEXT
Delaware will return to conference play against New Mexico State on Friday for a three-game series.

Softball season ticket deposits are available now. Season ticket packages and individual game tickets will go on sale later this winter.
Individual ticket prices will be $10 per game and $5 for youth (ages 3-12). Season ticket packages will be available at 50 percent off the single-game rate. There will also be group rates, incentives, and additional gameday experience opportunities. All seating will be general admission at Delaware Softball Diamond.
UD students will continue to receive free tickets to all home softball games.
