NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware softball team closes out its two-week homestand this weekend when the Blue Hens welcome UNCW to the UD Softball Stadium for a key Colonial Athletic Association series.
The Blue Hens and Seahawks will play a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday, with action on both days beginning at 12 noon.
Delaware is 14-10 on the season, and the Blue Hens are 1-1 in the conference after splitting a CAA doubleheader with Drexel on Sunday. UNCW brings a 13-11 mark into the weekend, although the Seahawks were swept while not scoring a run in their three-game series against Hofstra last weekend.
Blue Hen junior first baseman Lisa Stacevicz has hit safely in nine consecutive games, going 16 for 28 from the plate with 10 doubles in that span. Stacevicz is hitting .529 with a .912 slugging percentage and a .556 on base percentage for UD, and was named the CAA Co-Player of the Week on Monday.
Senior rightfielder Jessica Grisler is hitting a team-best .386 on the season, and currently ranks third in the league with 34 hits and 24 runs scored. Grisler, who broke the UD career hits mark on Sunday and is currently tied for the school record in runs scored, will be honored by the Blue Hens in between games of Saturday's doubleheader.
Mariah Kondravy carries a .382 batting average into the weekend along with a team-high 18 RBI, while fellow freshman Leanna Gearhart has gone 7 for her last 13 at the plate to raise her average to .308 on the campaign.
Sarah Davis is leading UNCW with a .347 batting average this season, along with team-highs of 25 hits and 14 runs batted in. Darian Roberts is hitting .326 on the year, while Casey Rowland paces the Seahawks with 12 runs scored and seven doubles. Peyton Jordan leads the UNCW pitching staff with a 4-1 record and a 1.74 earned run average.
Delaware leads the all-time series with UNCW, 24-11, while the teams split a doubleheader last season in Wilmington.
The weekend concludes a 12-game homestand for the Blue Hens, who will begin a stretch of 10 consecutive games on the road Wednesday with a 3 p.m. twinbill at Rider.
