Softball Defeats Middle Tennessee, 4-3, on Gallucci's Walk-Off Hit

NEWARK, Del. - University of Delaware softball sophomore Sorella Gallucci recorded her first career walk-off hit as UD defeated Middle Tennessee, 4-3, for Delaware's sixth consecutive win and fifth-straight conference win.Â

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Gallucci went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, a walk, and a stolen base.Â
- Bridget Chapman went 3-for-4.Â
- Sydney Shaffer had one hit and two walks.Â
- Caylin Blazys went 1-for-3.Â
- Ellie Mulligan went 1-for-2 off the bench.Â
- Claire Woods was the winning pitcher against her former team, pitching 3.1 innings in relief with three strikeouts and gave up no walks, one run, and two hits.Â
- Karli Challburg pitched 3.2 innings with five strikeouts, one walk, and three hits allowed.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Maddie Diamond had an RBI single in the first inning to score and Shaffer to put Delaware ahead 1-0.
- Challburg had two strikeouts in the first and one in the second, allowing no hits.
- MTSU recorded its first hit and run in the third to tie the score at one. The Blue Raiders took the lead in the fourth on an RBI double.
- Delaware immediately scored two runs in the bottom half to take the lead back. Gallucci had an RBI single to score Blazys, then Nankivell stole second and Gallucci came home on an error to put Delaware ahead 3-2.
- MTSU tied it again in the fifth on a fielder's choice.
- Woods had two strikeouts in the sixth and faced the minimum in the seventh inning.
- Chapman and Blazys both reached base in the bottom half, and a wild pitch put two runners in scoring position with two outs. Gallucci singled in pinch runner Marlayna Capaldi to give Delaware the win.Â
GAME NOTES
- Gallucci's walk-off hit was the first of her career. It was also Delaware's third walk-off win of the season, previously doing so on a single by Chapman on Feb. 14 against Georgetown and a single by Shaffer on Feb. 15 against St. Joe's.
- It is also the 18th walk-off win under Jen Steele and the 10th in conference play. Delaware has had three walk-off wins in three straight seasons.Â
- Bridget Chapman had her first career three-hit game.
- Nankivell extended her on-base streak to 20Â games and her hit streak to eight. Diamond extended her on-base streak to 15 games.
- Shaffer now has 36 walks on the season, four away from tying the program record set by Tori Conrad in 2013.
- Delaware is a season-best three games over .500 after winning 10 of its last 12 games.
- With Delaware's win and Sam Houston's loss to Missouri State, UD and SHSU are both tied for fourth in the conference standings.  Â

Softball season ticket deposits are available now. Season ticket packages and individual game tickets will go on sale later this winter.
Individual ticket prices will be $10 per game and $5 for youth (ages 3-12). Season ticket packages will be available at 50 percent off the single-game rate. There will also be group rates, incentives, and additional gameday experience opportunities. All seating will be general admission at Delaware Softball Diamond.
UD students will continue to receive free tickets to all home softball games.
