Delaware Fifth at Towson Invitational; Hagenauer, Hillman Win Throwing Events

TOWSON, Md. -- The University of Delaware women's outdoor track & field team enjoyed an outstanding showing in the field events on the way to a fifth place team finish at the Towson University Invitational Sunday at Johnny Unitas Stadium.
The Blue Hens, competing in their third event of the season, collected two first place finishes and 15 top five finishes on the way to the solid showing. Navy won the team title with 203.5 points followed by host Towson (178.5), Assumption (172), Pitt-Johnstown (105), and Delaware (83) in the 14-team field.
Delaware athletes posted two first place finishes in the weight events as senior Monica Hagenauer (Parkland/Schnecksville, Pa.) won the hammer with a toss of 154-7 and freshman Sarah Hillman (Polytech/Dover, Del.) captured her first career outdoor title with a first place finish in the shot put (43-7.75). Hillman also placed fourth in the discus (125-6) and sixth in the hammer (133-6).
Also for the Hens, freshman Anisa Fortt (Stamford/Stamford, Conn.) was second in the long jump (16-11.25), sophomore Megan Crowley (Parsippany Hills/Morris Plains, N.J.) was second in the 100 meter hurdles (16.04), freshman Kristin Valko (Central Bucks East/Pipersville, Pa.) was third in the javelin (115-5), and junior Michele Simmons (Southern Regional/Manahawkin, N.J.) was third in the 400 meters (1:00.26). Crowley was also seventh in the 400 meter hurdles (1:08.75).
Also for the Hens, senior Spencer Nendza (Hempfield/Lancaster, Pa.) posted three top 10 finishes with a fourth place finish in the triple jump (35-4.5), a seventh place showing in the javelin (97-5), and an eighth place finish in the long jump (16-1.5), senior Hannah Pepper (Cape Henlopen/Lewes, Del.) had two top 10 showings with a fifth place in the long jump (16-4.5) and seventh place performance in the 100 meter hurdles (17.12), and Irene Cedano (Hasbrouck Heights/Hasbrouch Heights, N.J.) was 10th in both the hammer (121-6) and shot put (35-6.75).
Delaware will return to action Apr. 2-4 at the Colonial Relays at William & Mary.
