NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware men's lacrosse team is asking Blue Hens fans to support their efforts in raising awareness in the fight against cancer.
The team is currently selling t-shirts with a portion of the proceeds benefitting the American Cancer Society. The pink t-shirts have “Delaware Lacrosse” printed on the front with the back showing a lacrosse stick with a rainbow ribbon - which has the colors that represent all types of cancers - with the words “Stick it to Cancer”.
The t-shirts cost $20 each with orders due by March 13 at 1 p.m. Shirts ordered will be available for pickup at Delaware's March 21 home game at 3 p.m. vs. Saint Joseph's at Delaware Stadium as part of Cancer Awareness Day. A very limited number of gameday sales will be available.
Fans can order t-shirts on the University of Delaware Athletics website by clicking here.

“I wanted to do something a little different than the shirts we have had the past few years,” said UD junior midfielder and economics major John O'Connor who designed the t-shirts. “I knew the multicolored ribbon was always a hit and had the idea to play off of that idea and turn it into the head of a lacrosse stick. My mom actually gave me the idea to write "Stick it to Cancer" underneath the design. Cancer has affected me in many ways as well. My grandfather was taken from us due to the disease and my aunt, Terri Curtis, was lost from breast cancer. I don't think you could find someone today that has not been affected in one way or another and that is why I think our lacrosse team feels so strongly about raising awareness. I'm hoping this can be one of our best years in terms of fundraising.”
This past November, the UD men's lacrosse team raised a record $27,331 as part of the HEADstrong Foundation Lacrosse Mustache Madness program. Delaware's original goal was $10,000 but the team members reached $12,458 in just three days, including a record $6,700 raised in one 24-hour period. The HEADstrong Foundation™ is committed to being a resource for cancer patients and families, helping them to navigate the harrowing ordeal of cancer by providing essential programs and services to improve quality of life.
