Delaware Women's Tennis Preps for CAA Tournament

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The University of Delaware women's tennis team looks for its first Colonial Athletic Association title this weekend as the Blue Hens travel to the College of William & Mary for tournament action at the Millie West Tennis Facility and Commons Tennis Facility.
Delaware, the No. 8 seed, will open play Thursday at 10 a.m. with first-round action against ninth-seeded Hofstra. UD most recently defeated the Pride (12-4, 0-3 CAA), 6-1, this past Saturday at home as part of Senior Day.
The Blue Hens finished regular season competition with an overall mark of 5-8 while going 1-5 against league opponents.
Laura Travis, who is in her 23rd season at her alma mater. “We started the season on the right foot, but unfortunately injuries have plagued us like never before. Despite this adversity, we have played with courage and heart in every single match.”Delaware boasts an experienced squad with five upperclassmen, including seniors Christina Harrington (Millersville, Md./Severna Park), Abby Martinez (Winter Haven, Fla./Winter Haven) and Kim Milla (México City, México/CONAMAT).
Junior Danea Jonjic' (Split, Croatia/Croatia Natural Sciences and Technical) joins freshman Arielle Shuren (Montebello, N.Y./Suffern) in leading the Hens with 10 singles wins apiece.
In doubles action, the duo also pair for a team-best 10 victories, which have all come in the top flight.
Should UD advance, the Hens will face top-seeded William & Mary at 9 a.m. Friday in the quarterfinals. The winner moves on to Saturday's 10 a.m. semifinal contest and the CAA women's championship match is set for 10 a.m. Sunday.
