Jim Sherman. “We got quality innings from Davis, good bullpen support from Spadafino, and Luke (Alicknavitch) closed it off. We got some timely hitting and some great hustle. Overall it was a great day, pitching-wise, defense-wise, and hitting-wise.”After William & Mary took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI single by Ryan Hall, Delaware tied it up in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly from senior shortstop Brock Niggebrugge. The Hens then took control with a three-run third, scoring all the runs with two outs. Redshirt freshman third baseman Diaz Nardo collected a two-out single and UD followed with RBI doubles from junior left fielder Gary Jones and senior designated hitter Greg Olenski and a run-scoring single from Warrington to take a 4-1 lead.
Delaware added some insurance in the seventh inning when sophomore Nick Liggett, who entered the game when first baseman Jeremy Ake was injured in the second inning, clouted his first career homer with a shot over the right field fence to give Delaware an 8-3 lead.
