RICHMOND, Va. -- A trio of Blue Hens were honored on the All-Colonial Athletic Association men's lacrosse team announced Wednesday evening as senior midfielder Brian Kormondy, senior defender Brandon Worrall, and freshman defender Connor Lalley were recognized.
The announcement came on the eve of the CAA Tournament, which will be held at Fairfield (Conn.) University. The semifinals will be held on Thursday, Apr. 30 with top seed Fairfield taking on No. 4
Massachusetts and No. 2 Drexel taking on No. 3 Towson.
The winners will advance to Saturday's championship game.
Kormondy (Mullen/Highland Ranch, Colo.) was the lone Blue Hen selected to the first team, Worrall (West Windsor North/Plainsboro, N.J./at right) was a second team CAA all-star and was also Delaware's selection to the CAA All-Academic team, and Lalley (Ridge/Basking Ridge, N.J.) was named to the All-Rookie team.
The selections were made from a vote by the six CAA head coaches. Hofstra's Sam Llinares was named Player of the Year, Towson goalkeeper Tyler White was named Defensive Player of the Year, Fairfield faceoff ace Will Fox was named Rookie of the Year, and Fairfield's Andy Copelan was named Coach of the Year.
Kormondy, who earned first team honors for the second straight year, was Delaware's top player throughout the season and ranked second on the team in goals (22), assists (14), points (36), and shots (89).
He also recorded 14 groundballs and three caused turnovers and did not commit a penalty all season. A sixth round pick by Ohio in the January Major League Lacrosse Draft, Kormondy scored a goal in
all but two games and had a season-high three each vs. Rutgers and Hofstra. He ended his four-year career with 52 goals.
Worrall, who also earned CAA All-Rookie honors as a freshman in 2012, ranked among the top defenders in the league thanks to a team-high 12 caused turnovers and a total of 24 groundballs that ranked fourth on the team.
After missing the first two games of the season while still recovering from a severe knee injury suffered midway through the 2014 season, Worrall started 12 games and increased his career caused turnovers total to 50, good for No. 2 all-time in UD history.
An honor student, Worrall earned his undergraduate degree in finance last May and currently holds a 3.75 grade point average while enrolled in Delaware's MBA finance program.
Lalley (above left) was one of just three defenders named to the All-Rookie team. He played in 14 games with 12 starts and was one of just two rookies to start a game for the Hens in 2015. He collected five groundballs and six caused turnovers with his caused turnovers total ranking sixth on the team.
Lalley also registered an assist in the mid-season win over Holy Cross.
