RADNOR, Pa. -- A trio of University of Delaware men's lacrosse standouts - attackman Beau Jones, midfielder Brian Kormondy, and defender Brandon Worrall - has been selected to compete in this weekend's United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Coaches Association (USILA) North-South Senior All-Star Game.
The 74th annual game will take place at Cabrini College on Friday, May 22 at 5:30 p.m. and will include the nation's top seniors at the NCAA Division I and II levels. The NCAA Division III North-South game will take place prior at 3 p.m.
Jones, Kormondy, and Worrall will compete for the South team led by Seton Hill head coach Brian Novotny. Vermont head coach Ryan Curtis will lead the North team.
Jones, a finance major from Philadelphia, Pa. (Germantown Academy), led the Blue Hens in assists and points this season as he totalled 40 points on 18 goals and 22 assists. He also led the team with a 42.9 shooting percentage, had three man-up goals, scooped up 24 groundballs, and caused nine turnovers. He recorded two six-point games - vs. Fairfield and Holy Cross - and scored a career-high four goals in a win over Manhattan. He tallied 80 career points on 36 goals and 44 assists.
Kormondy, a marketing and management major from Highland Ranch, Colo. (Mullen HS), was the Blue Hens' co-captain and top player in 2015 when he ranked second on the team in both goals and points and earned first team All-CAA honors for the second straight year.
He tallied 22 goals and 14 assists for 36 points and had three man-up goals, 14 groundballs, and three caused turnovers. A sixth round Major League Lacrosse Draft pick in January by the Ohio Machine, Kormondy had seven multiple goal games in 2015 and finished his career with 77 points on 52 goals and 35 assists.
Worrall, an MBA finance student from Plainsboro, N.J. (West Windsor North HS), was honored for the second time this week after being named a USILA National Scholar All-American on Tuesday. The 6-foot, 4-inch Worrall was the Hens best defender in 2015 when he earned second team All-CAA honors.
After missing the second half of the 2014 season with a serious knee injury, he returned in 2015 to playing 13 games with 12 starts, record 24 groundballs, and lead the team with 12 caused turnovers. He ranks No. 2 all-time at Delaware with 50 career caused turnovers.
Delaware is the only NCAA Division I school with three players on the South team and is one of just four schools nationally with three or more players competing, joining NCAA Division II Seton Hill (3) on the South team and Fairfield (3) and Hofstra (4) on the North. A total of 10 players from the Colonial Athletic Association will be competing.
The Blue Hens have not had as many as three players selected for the game since 2011 when four Delaware players, including goalkeeper and current UD assistant Noah Fossner, took part in 2011. Fossner was named that game's Most Valuable Player.
