SKILLMAN, N.J. – The University of Delaware women's tennis team was recognized Friday by the ITA as an All-Academic Team while four Blue Hens were also honored for their hard work in the classroom during the 2014-15 season.
Laura TravisSeniors Christina Harrington (Millersville, Md./Severna Park) and Kim Milla (México City, México/CONAMAT) joined sophomore Denny LaMachia (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) and freshman Amanda Studnicki (Normal, Ill./Normal West) in being named ITA Scholar Athletes. LaMachia, a finance major, and Studnicki, a biomedical engineering major, each earned a 4.0 GPA in their first season at Delaware.
Harrington graduated from the University of Delaware in May with a Bachelor of Science in accounting and finance while Milla graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree with Distinction from the College of Health Sciences.
“Having two perfect 4.0 GPA student-athletes with difficult majors is really impressive as is the fact that we have international student-athletes who are studying in their second language always amazes me,” Travis remarked. “Every year it is our goal to earn this recognition and we are grateful that the ITA has this program in place. It is a strong motivator year-to-year.”
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team GPA of 3.20 or above on a 4.00 scale. In order to earn ITA Scholar Athlete status, a student-athlete must be a varsity letter winner with a GPA of at least 3.50 for the current academic year.
As a program, Delaware women's tennis has been acknowledged as an ITA All-Academic Team eight times since the program's inception in 2002. Eighteen Blue Hens have also been honored as ITA Scholar Athletes, with many earning multiple-year accolades.
