FALL SCHEDULE
Laura Travis, now in her 24th season at her alma mater, announced Wednesday the team's schedule for the fall semester. The Blue Hens will compete in four invitational tournaments in addition to wrapping fall play with the ITA Atlantic Regional Championship.
Delaware opens the year by traveling to the Saint Joseph's Invitational for the weekend of September 11-13. Last season, the Hens captured the Flight 1 and Flight 2 Doubles titles while rising senior Nataliya Naumova (Moscow, Russia/Moscow 98 School No. 1953) collected the Flight 4 Singles championship.
Action continues two weeks later as UD competes in the UMBC Invitational for the first time in program history.
The following weekend (Oct. 2-4), the Blue Hens return to the Cissie Leary Invitational, which is hosted by Penn.
Team action concludes the weekend of Oct. 9-11 as Delaware faces possibly the toughest competition of the fall slate at the Navy Blue & Gold Invitational. The pairing of rising senior Danea Jonjic' (Split, Croatia/Croatia Natural Sciences & Technical) and rising sophomore Arielle Shuren (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) proved to be successful as the duo claimed the Flight A Doubles title.
Select individuals will be chosen by the International Tennis Association to participate in the Atlantic Regionals Championship, hosted by Liberty, Oct. 15-19. During the 2014 season, Jonjic' and Shuren were joined by rising junior Denny LaMachia (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) and graduate Kim Milla (México City, México/CONAMAT) as selections for the ITA Regional.
The Blue Hens return five letterwinners from the past season while welcoming four freshmen to the squad for the upcoming academic year.
