Former Delaware Standout WR Michael Johnson Signs with Philadelphia Eagles

PHILADELPHIA -- Add yet another name to the list of former University of Delaware football standouts vying for spots on National Football League rosters this pre-season.
Michael Johnson, a four-year standout for the Blue Hens who capped his career last fall by snaring 78 passes and earning All-Colonial Athletic Association honors, was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday.
A native of Gainesville, Fla. (Gainesville High School), Johnson is currently taking part in camp at the Eagles' Nova Care Complex. He is one of 12 wide receivers on the roster, joining veterans Seyiand Ajirotutu, Miles Austin, Riley Cooper, Josh Huff, Jeff Maehl, Jordan Matthews, and Quron Pratt, and rookies Nelson Agholor, Rasheed Bailey, DeVante Davis, and John Harris.
The 6-2, 210 lb. Johnson capped an outstanding career with the Blue Hens this past fall when he served as a team co-captain and earned first team All-CAA honors after catching 78 passes for 830 yards (10.6 avg.) and one touchdown and led the CAA in all-purpose yards with 141.8 yards per game. As a junior he earned second team All-CAA honors when he caught 60 passes for 1,035 yards and nine touchdowns.
For his career, Johnson caught 182 passes for 2,325 yards and 14 touchdowns and had 5,008 all-purpose yards. He ranks No. 5 all-time at Delaware in receptions and No. 6 in receiving yards. He earned his degree in health behavior science from Delaware in May.
Johnson is one of 10 Blue Hens currently in NFL camps, joining QB Joe Flacco and TE Nick Boyle with Baltimore; S Mike Adams and DT Zach Kerr with Indianapolis, LB Paul Worrilow with Atlanta; C Gino Gradkowski with Denver; DE Ronald Talley with the New York Jets; CB Marcus Burley with Seattle; and OT Erle Ladson with Cleveland. Ladson was signed on July 29.
Delaware will open pre-season camp this Saturday, Aug. 8 in preparation for the season opener on Sept. 4 vs. Jacksonville (Fla.) at Delaware Stadium.
