Tinsley, a native of Seffner, Fla. (Armwood High School), becomes the first solo captain for the Blue Hens since 2002 when linebacker Dan Mulhern served in the prestigious role.
"We are thrilled to announce David as our 2015 captain," said Brock. "He has shown incredible leadership and commitment to our program and his teammates confirmed that with their overwhelming vote of confidence. He has been an emotional leader throughout preseason camp and has had a great affect on the team. We look forward to David having a great senior year."
"I'm excited," said Tinsley. "I've been here for five years and just to have it come down to this is a big honor. It means a lot to me to have the guys on the team trust me to lead them and have them look to
me. A captain should be someone who does the right things all the time and someone who is the voice for all 95 guys. I compare it to being the ultimate Blue Hen, so when I put on my jersey, I'm just like all the other guys who came before me. It's going to be fun because we have a great group of guys on this team."
For his career, he has played in 20 games with one start and recorded 41 tackles, including one sack, and has forced a fumble. He missed five games with injuries as a redshirt freshman in 2012 before playing in all 12 contests in 2013.
Tinsley earned his degree in marketing and management this past May and is currently pursuing his master's in business degree from Delaware this fall.
Delaware will open the 2015 season this Friday when the Hens host Jacksonville (Fla.) at 7 p.m. at Delaware Stadium.
