Men's Soccer Hits Road for Tuesday Match at Virginia Tech

NEWARK, Del. – The Blue Hens continue non-conference action Tuesday by facing off against ACC foe Virginia Tech at 7 p.m. at Thompson Field in Blacksburg, Va.

The Blue Hens had a few opportunities to get on the scoreboard, Delaware fell to Columbia, 1-0, Saturday evening at Stuart & Suzanne Grant Stadium. The Hens (3-3-1) held things close with the Lions (4-0-0), who are receiving votes nationally, throughout the entire game. UD posted a total of seven shots on the game and had one goal wiped away due to an offsides penalty in the first half. The two teams remained scoreless for the majority of the game before Dylan Mott put Columbia ahead in the 79th minute. Ben Sampson nearly tied the game just a minute later with a header, but a Lions defender was able to notch the team save for the win. Blai Palmí finished the game with six saves in 90 minutes played.
HEN SCRATCHINGS
· Delaware has been shutout in two consecutive games for the first time since 2012 when the Hens lost to Hofstra, 3-0, and George Mason, 2-0.
· Guillermo Delgado is tied for third place in school history with 70 career points alongside John Petito (1978-82).
· Delgado's 31 goals are third-most in school history and four shy of second place, currently held by John McCloskey (1975-78).
· Delgado posted the sixth multi-goal game of his career against Lehigh and currently leads the Hens with four goals (18th nationally) this season.
· With 12 career assists, Joe Dipre is tied for eighth all-time in program history with John McCloskey (1975-78) and Roger Morley (1966-68).
· Mike Brizendine (James Madison '99) is in his seventh season as the head coach of the Hokies and holds an all-time record of 35-66-16 (.368) at Virginia Tech.
ABOUT VIRGINIA TECH
The Hokies are currently 3-2-1 on the year and most recently tied No. 19 Louisville, 1-1, last Friday. VT is 1-1-1 against ranked opponents and defeated No. 10 Xavier, 3-1, in Cincinnati earlier this month. Merlin Baus currently leads the team and is ranked 12th nationally with 2.0 points per game for a total of 10 on three goals and four assists, a mark good for 10th in the NCAA. Ben Lundgaard has played all 575 minutes for the Hokies in the net and has allowed 1.10 goals per game with a save percentage of .696.
