CHANDLER, Ariz. – After notching their first loss of the season at then-No. 6 Duke, the University of Delaware field hockey team dropped one spot to No. 13 in this week's Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll.
The Blue Hens, off to their best start in program history, fell to the Blue Devils, 5-1, last Friday before bouncing back with a 3-2 victory at Richmond to improve to 9-1 overall on the year.
Delaware received 358 votes to earn the No. 13 ranking and is just one of four Division I squads with nine wins on the season. The top four remain in tact from last week with UConn (9-0) leading the way with 886 points and 27 first place votes. Syracuse (9-0), North Carolina (9-1) and Virginia (8-1) follow the Huskies in order.
The Hens are currently second nationally behind UConn with 4.3 goals and 12.1 points per game. UD is also fifth with 3.5 assists per game and a scoring margin of 2.1.
The preseason favorite to win the conference, Delaware opens Colonial Athletic Association play this weekend by hosting William & Mary Friday at 7 p.m. and No. 19 James Madison Sunday at 1 p.m.
