Hens Welcome Owls for Non-Conference Meeting Wednesday

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware men's soccer team looks to get back to the win column and will host No. r/v Temple Wednesday evening at Stuart & Suzanne Grant Stadium.

In what was an extremely balanced and tough-fought game the entire way through, No. 8 Elon was able to come up with the 1-0 victory over Delaware Saturday evening at Stuart & Suzanne Grant Stadium. The defensive battle featured a total of 27 combined shots, including 12 on goal, in the in the Blue Hens (3-5-1) Colonial Athletic Association opener. The Phoenix (8-1-0, 2-0 CAA) picked up the lone goal of the game in the 18th minute as James Brace collected his third tally of the season. Todd Morton earned his second start of the season and tallied a season-best five saves, including two huge back-to-back saves in the 57th minute. Guillermo Delgado and Jaime Martinez posted three shots apiece for Delaware.
HEN SCRATCHINGS
· Delaware has lost four straight for the first time since losing six consecutive in 2009, all of which came during CAA play.
· The Blue Hens have been shutout in three of the last four games.
· Since 2011, UD has earned two berths to the NCAA Tournament with a CAA Tournament Championship in 2011, CAA Regular Season title in 2014 and two CAA Tournament Finals appearances.
· Guillermo Delgado is tied for third place in school history with 70 career points alongside John Petito (1978-82).
· Delgado's 31 goals are third-most in school history and four shy of second place, currently held by John McCloskey (1975-78).
· Delgado posted the sixth multi-goal game of his career against Lehigh and currently leads the Hens with four goals this season.
· With 12 career assists, Joe Dipre is tied for eighth all-time in program history with John McCloskey (1975-78) and Roger Morley (1966-68).
· David MacWilliams (Philadelphia University '78) is in his 16th year as the head coach of the Temple men's soccer program. MacWilliams, who owns a 116-128-27 mark with the Owls, has more than 30 years of coaching and playing experience.
ABOUT NO. R/V TEMPLE
The Owls stand at 7-1-1 on the season and hold the best overall record in the American Athletic Conference. They are coming off their first loss of the season with a 3-2 conference decision at Cincinnati. Junior Jorge Gomez Sanchez leads the nation in points with 25 on the year on 11 goals (five game-winning) and three points. He also ranks second in goals per game, points per game, total goals and shots per game. Gomez Sanchez, along with classmate Matt Mahoney and freshman Belal Mohamed, each earned a spot on the league's weekly honor roll for their efforts against La Salle and Cincinnati. Alex Cagle has started all nine games for Temple and allowed just 0.75 goals per game with a .767 save percentage.
