Maryland Terrapin Invitational

Idris Wins Triple Jump, Delaware Sets Three Records at Maryland Terrapin Invitational
1/30/2016 8:06:00 PM | Track & Field - Indoor
Idris, the defending ECAC champion in the event, earned top honors at Maryland as she won the triple jump with a leap of 39-feet, 2.5-inches to best a field of 17 competitors. The leap also qualified
her for the ECAC Championships in March in Boston.
Idris was one of several UD student-athletes who enjoyed stellar days on Saturday. Two school records and one freshman standard fell as sophomore Tyra Reid was second in the 300 meters with a UD record time of 39.40, freshman Carly Pettipaw (at left) was fourth in the 600 meters with a clocking of 1:36.48, and freshman Ashley Bailey set the UD freshman record in the pole vault with a height of 12-1.5 that was good for second place but first among collegiate competitors.
Reid's time broke the UD 300 meters record of 39.81 by Vicky Caruso in 2010, Pettipaw bested the previous UD standard of 1:40.64 in the 600 meters set by Chelsi Campbell and Rachel Wasserman in 2013, and Bailey broke the UD freshman pole vault record of 11-9.75 that she previously shared with Kelli McDonald (2006). Bailey's leap also qualified her for the ECAC Championships.
"We had very good team energy today," said Delaware head coach Wendy McFarlane. "I was pleased with the performances today. The more the ladies compete, the more they discover their strengths and weaknesses. The next few weeks in the indoor season is crucial as we prepare for the indoor championship and a better spring season."
Overall Delaware had 19 top 10 finishes and earned 80.5 points for the meet to place third behind team champion and host Maryland (180) and runner-up Navy (85) in the 17-team field.
Sophomore Isis Pinkney placed second in the 60 meters (7.69) and third in the 200 meters (25.93), junior Tyler Jackson was second in the 200 meters (25.61), Bailey was also fourth in the long jump (17-4.75), and Rachel Moroknek and Jennifer Hineman each tied for fifth in the pole vault (9-8).
Sophomore Sarah Hillman recorded two top 10 finishes as she placed sixth in the weight throw (51-3.75) and 10th in the shot put (39-6).
Delaware will continue action next weekend when the Blue Hens compete at the Armory Collegiate Invitational on Feb. 5-6 at the New York City Armory and Feb. 6 at the Villanova Invitational at the Ocean Breeze Park Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y.
