WILMINGTON, N.C. – For just the second time this season, the Blue Hens were shutout by an opponent as UNCW picked up the 1-0 victory over Delaware Saturday evening at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.
Despite the loss, the Hens (10-7-1-, 5-3-0 CAA) clinched the No. 2 seed in the upcoming CAA Tournament, which will be hosted by Hofstra University, who earned the top seed, on Nov. 11 and 13. As the second seed, Delaware receives a bye for next weekend's quarterfinals action.
The Blue Hens were held to a season-low two shots, neither of which came on goal. The two shots were also the fewest for Delaware since putting up two at VCU on Oct. 14, 2005.
Julio Moncada gave the Seahawks (8-5-2, 3-2-2 CAA) the lone goal of the game, his eighth of the season, in the 10th minute after receiving the pass from Phillip Goodrum.
Redshirt sophomore Todd Morton (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) logged two saves in the loss.
“Tonight's result aside, I am delighted for the lads that we return to postseason play. Earning a quarterfinals bye will allow us an extra weekend of rest as we prepare for postseason play in one of the nation's strongest conference.”
