NEWARK, Del. – Delaware and Georgetown both struggled on the offensive end of the court Sunday afternoon, but in the end the Hoyas pulled out the 54-46 decision at the Bob Carpenter Center.
The Blue Hens (5-3) registered season-highs in fouls (20) and turnovers (15) while shooting just 27.8 percent from the floor on 15-of-54 shooting.
Sophomore Nicole Enabosi (Gaithersburg, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) posted her second
straight double double of the year by recording 19 points and 12 rebounds to go along with three blocked shots, two assists and two steals in 35 minutes of action.
Senior Hannah Jardine (at left; St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada/O'Donel) added 12 points and six rebounds while classmate Erika Brown (Paterson, N.J./John F. Kennedy) dished out a season-best six assists with four points.
Dionna White led Georgetown (6-2) with 18 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals while Faith Woodward collected nine rebounds, six points, three steals and two blocked shots.
“We made some mistakes today that were costly. We certainly did some good things, but we did not execute the way we needed to and that put a lot of pressure on our defense. You have to give Georgetown credit as they played good defense, but we forced some things offensively and in the end that hurt us.”
Senior Co-Captain Hannah Jardine
“Good defense definitely helps the offensive game and today we didn't play great defense. If we had gotten a few more defensive stops, it would have been okay that we missed a few shots. But unfortunately that didn't happen today.”
Sophomore Nicole Enabosi
“That was a tough game to lose. They're a good team, but I feel like we could have done a lot better. We made a lot of mistakes; we had a lot of turnovers. Our offense was stagnant and at the end of the day, we need to produce more. Every game we play is a good game to learn from and today is no different. We have a lot of things to work on before Wednesday.”
