RICHMOND, Va. -- University of Delaware freshman Anna Steinmetz was named the Colonial Athletic Association Softball Rookie of the Week on Tuesday after opening her career in impressive fashion last weekend at the FIU Panther Invitational.
Steinmetz (Glen Mills, Pa./West Chester Bayard Rustin), who started three games behind the plate and three as the team's designated player, batted .500 at the tournament with team-highs of four home runs and 10 RBI.
Steinmetz belted a two-run homer and drove home two other runs during her Blue Hen debut vs. Holy Cross on Friday, before adding two hits including a double during the second game of the day vs. Indiana. She went 3 for 5 with three RBI in Saturday's win over FIU, including a two-run homer in the fifth inning that put UD in front for good.
Steinmetz added two more homers on Sunday, blasting one each against Holy Cross and FIU, while driving home three on the day. She currently leads the CAA and is tied for ninth in Division I with four home runs, and is tied for second in the league with 10 RBI.
Delaware (3-3) heads back to Miami this weekend for six games at the FIU Felsberg Invitational, beginning on Friday when the Blue Hens take on Siena at 11 a.m. and Central Connecticut at 2 p.m.
