Blue Hens Struggle at Elon in 62-45 Loss

ELON, N.C. – Delaware was never able to get into an offensive rhythm Friday evening as Elon defeated the Blue Hens, 62-45, at Alumni Gym.
The Phoenix gradually built their lead through the course of the game, but never led by double figures until late in the third quarter. Elon never let up and kept the foot on the gas while going up by as much as 19 with 4:08 remaining in the contest.
Junior Erika Brown (Paterson, N.J./John F. Kennedy) and sophomores Sadé Chatman (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Central) and Makeda Nicholas (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) posted eight points apiece for Delaware (14-13, 9-7 CAA).
Chatman and Nicholas joined freshman Nicole Enabosi (Gaithersburg, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) in collecting six rebounds apiece.
Senior Courtni Green (Winchester, Va./Millbrook) added seven points, three steals and two assists.
Shay Burnett guided Elon (17-10, 10-6 CAA) with 19 points and 10 rebounds while Essence Baucom notched seven points and five assists.
Tina Martin“It's a tough loss for us because it's the end of the season and we are trying to gain momentum. We just didn't play well. We did some silly things, but that all rose out of frustration. We didn't shoot the ball well tonight and we weren't able to convert on layups. And when you don't shoot well, you're going to struggle. You have to give Elon credit, they did a great job on the glass.”
HEN SCRATCHINGS
· The Blue Hens were held without a 3-point basket for the first time since November 14, 2014 versus Lafayette.
· Elon outrebounded Delaware, 43-32.
· The Hens are 0-4 all-time against the Phoenix.
· Erika Brown continues to inch towards the 1,000-career point mark and currently holds 995.
