Late Inning Rallies Lift Charleston To 14-4 Victory Over Blue Hens

Jim Sherman. “We just had two really poor innings on the mound in the seventh and eighth that opened the floodgates. I know many of our guys were playing in their first conference game, but we need to really focus better in tough situations. I really believe this group is a good club, and expect them to bounce back tomorrow.”
Morgan Phillips drove home a pair of runs with sacrifice flies in the first and third innings to put Charleston on top, while Nardo added a sacrifice fly of his own in the top of the fourth to put the Blue Hens on the board. The Cougars tacked on a pair on the bottom of the fourth to go up 4-1, and after Delaware eventually pulled even, Charleston put the game away with the seventh-inning rally.
The rest of the weekend series has been altered, as the Blue Hens and Cougars will now play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 2 p.m. at Patriots Point.
Game Notes:
• Delaware had won 11 of 12 games prior to Friday's defeat
• The Blue Hens were playing their first true road game since Feb. 28
• Charleston improved to 12-3 at home
• Nick Patten extended his hitting streak to eight games
• Marinaccio picked up his first no decision of the year and remained unbeaten with a 5-0 record
• The Cougars have won six of seven meetings with UD since joining the CAA
