Blue Hens To Face Bucknell, Delaware State in Blue Hen Blast Tournament

NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware softball team will open its home schedule this weekend when UD hosts Bucknell and Delaware State in the Blue Hen Blast Tournament.
Friday's games have been cancelled due to snow, and the three teams are scheduled to play a round robin format on both Saturday and Sunday at the UD Softball Stadium. On Saturday Delaware State will face Delaware at 10:30 a.m., Bucknell will take on Delaware at 1 p.m., and Bucknell will battle Delaware State at 3:30 p.m. Sunday's action will feature Delaware State and Bucknell playing at 10:30 a.m., before the Blue Hens face Bucknell at 1 p.m. and Delaware State at 3:30 p.m.
Delaware is 8-4 on the season and has won five consecutive games, as the Blue Hens went 5-1 last weekend at the FIU Felsberg Invitational. Mariah Kondravy leads the Blue Hens with a .462 batting average and 18 hits on the season, while Giovanna Kolofer is hitting .371 with team-highs of nine runs scored and 11 RBI. Mattie Nuccio has posted a .350 batting average through the first 12 games, while Anna Steinmetz also has 11 RBI to go with a team-leading four home runs.
Kiersten Coffman, who was named the CAA Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday, leads the UD pitching staff with a 5-2 record and a 1.39 earned run average.
Bucknell carries a 6-4 record into the weekend, as the Bison won their final four games last week at the UNCW Invitational with a pair of wins over the host Seahawks and North Carolina Central. Meghan Kovac currently ranks second in the nation with a .676 batting average, as she is 25 for 37 with seven doubles and 11 RBI through her first 10 games. Amanda Fazio is hitting .462 for Bucknell, and is also 2-2 with a 1.35 ERA in the circle.
Delaware State is 4-6 on the season, and won a pair of games last weekend at the Charleston Southern Tournament. Sandy Hawthorne paces the Hornets with a .441 batting average, 15 hits and 11 RBI, while Nicole Gazzola also has 15 hits to go with a team-leading 13 runs scored and a .417 batting average. Tara Tursellino is 2-3 with a 4.32 ERA in the circle for Delaware State.
