Anna Steinmetz Earns Second CAA Softball Rookie of the Week Honor

RICHMOND, Va. -- University of Delaware freshman Anna Steinmetz was named the Colonial Athletic Association Softball Rookie of the Week on Tuesday, earning her second conference honor during the first three weeks of her career.
Steinmetz (Glen Mills, Pa./West Chester Bayard Rustin), who split time at first base and behind the plate during UD's four games at the Blue Hen Blast Tournament over the weekend, batted .385 (5 for 13) with three RBI, two runs scored and a double.
She recorded a single during Saturday's game vs. Delaware State and Sunday's win over Bucknell, before closing the tournament with a 3 for 3 performance including three RBI, two runs scored, a double and a walk during the 13-11 triumph over the Hornets.
Steinmetz has started all 16 games so far during her freshman campaign, batting .320 while tying for the league lead with four home runs. She also is second on the Blue Hens with 14 RBI and 31 total bases, and is fourth with 16 hits and seven runs scored. She earned the second conference award of her young career, as she was also tabbed the CAA Rookie of the Week on Feb. 23.
Steinmetz and the Blue Hens, who are 10-6 on the season, return to the UD Softball Stadium this weekend when Delaware plays four games in the UD Spring Invitational.
