Delaware Baseball Finishes Series Sweep Over Hofstra with 8-4 Victory

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- The University of Delaware went ahead for good with two runs in the seventh and then added three insurance runs in the ninth to clinch a weekend Colonial Athletic Association weekend baseball sweep with an 8-4 victory over Hofstra at University Field Sunday afternoon.
Delaware (21-11, 4-5 CAA) clinched its first conference series sweep on the road since 2012 as the Hens followed up a doubleheader sweep Friday with Sunday's victory. The Hens posted wins of 8-4 and 13-3 on Friday and outscored the Pride (8-24, 1-7) 29-11 and outhim them 47-20 during the
weekend.
The Hens have now won four straight games and five of their last six heading into an eight-game homestand at Bob Hannah Stadium that begins this Friday, Apr. 15, when the Hens take on Northeastern in the first game of a three-game weekend set.
Delaware second baseman Nick Tierno went 4 for 4 and scored three runs and leftfielder Jordan Glover collected three hits and recorded RBI doubles in both the seventh and ninth innings to lead the way. The Hen banged out 14 hits, including six doubles, and got hit contributions from all but two starters.
Patten's leadoff home run in the second helped lead Delaware to a 2-0 lead in the second before Hofstra tied it up with two runs of their own in the fourth. Delaware took back the lead on a Nardo sacrifice fly in the fifth before the Pride evened things again on a single run in the sixth.
Delaware then went up for good with two runs in the seventh as Glover knocked in a run with a double and later scored on a wild pitch. The Pride got one back with a run in the eighth but Delaware put things away with a three-run ninth that was highlighted by consecutive RBI doubles by Glover, Nardo, and Jeremy Ake.
HEN SCRATCHINGS:
• Delaware RF Kyle Baker went of 0 for 5 and had a nine-game win streak snapped a streak of 15 straight games getting on base
• Patten extended his hitting streak to eight games while Glover extended his to seven games and Tierno extended his on-base streak to 15 games
• Patten's eight home runs is the most by a UD freshman since Alex Buccholz hit 18 and Bill Merkler 10 in 2006
• Glover now has a team-high 10 multiple RBI games this season
