NEWARK, Del. -- Northeastern righthander Aaron Civale allowed just one run in eight innings to lead the Huskies to a 6-1 victory over the University of Delaware baseball team on Friday afternoon at Bob Hannah Stadium.
The Blue Hens (21-12, 4-6 Colonial Athletic Association) opened the scoring during the bottom of the third inning when Nick Tierno worked a two-out walk, advanced to third on a stolen base and a throwing error by Huskies catcher Josh Treff, and scored when Jordan Glover rolled a single into rightfield.
However Northeastern (17-14, 5-4 CAA) took the lead for good in the top of the fifth by pushing across three unearned runs off Blue Hen starter Ron Marinaccio. Nick Fanneron led off with a single up the middle, and after Treff was hit by a pitch, Cam Walsh reached on a throwing error by UD third baseman Diaz Nardo to load the bases.
Delaware will look to even the series Saturday afternoon, with the second game of the weekend series scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at Bob Hannah Stadium. Freshman lefthander Brandon Walter will get the start for the Blue Hens, looking to earn his fourth win of the season.
