Duo Selected for CAA All-Academic Teams

RICHMOND, Va. – University of Delaware senior Mike Furr (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) and junior Denny LaMachia (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) were named Wednesday as members of the Colonial Athletic Association All-Academic Team.
Furr, who is expected to graduate in May with a degree in mechanical engineering, finishes his career as a three-time CAA All-Academic selection. A team captain and SAAC representative, Furr has played all of his singles matches this season in the top flight.
The 2016 CAA Men's Tennis Championship gets underway Friday at the Burlington Tennis Center in Burlington, N.C. and the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center on the campus of Elon University. The tournament runs through Sunday, with the men's championship set for 10 a.m. on April 24. The Blue Hens (3-13, 0-3 CAA) open play by taking on top-seeded UNCW (10-8, 1-0 CAA) at 9 a.m. Friday.
The All-Academic accolades are the first for LaMachia, who is majoring in finance. Also a team captain and SAAC representative, LaMachia guides UD with 15 singles wins, nine of which came in dual play. She has also posted 16 doubles wins for the Hens this season.
The 2016 CAA Women's Tennis Championship gets underway Thursday at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center on the campus of Elon University. The tournament runs through Sunday, with the women's championship set for 2 p.m. on April 24. The No. 9 Blue Hens (8-9, 0-6 CAA) begin the weekend with first round action against eighth-seeded Hofstra at 9 a.m. Thursday.
