NEWARK, Del. -- It has been quite a week for University of Delaware men's lacrosse attackman Paul Major.
After leading the Blue Hens to an upset 10-7 win over previously No. 7 ranked Towson last week with an impressive four-goal performance, the junior is now reaping the rewards.
The economics major from Royersford, Pa. (Spring-Ford High School) not only was named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week on Monday, but he also garnered a pair of national awards as he was selected as the NCAA.com Division I Offensive Player of the Week as well as the USILA/Lids Team Sports National Offensive Player of the Week.
Major helped Delaware (5-8, 2-1 CAA) move back into the thick of the CAA race as he scored four goals to lead the Blue Hens to the 10-7 upset victory at Towson on Saturday afternoon. Major scored two goals in the first quarter and one in the second as Delaware took a 6-4 lead at halftime and never trailed.
His fourth goal of the day came with eight seconds left in the third quarter pushed lead to 8-4. He also had a ground ball. It was the fifth career hat trick for Major and his fourth of the season. He leads the team with 23 goals and has scored two or more six times.
The Hens will be looking to continue that momentum this Saturday when they host longtime foe and CAA rival Drexel (4-8, 0-3 CAA) at 1 p.m. at Delaware Stadium. The Dragons have beaten the Hens four straight times.
In addition to Major, another CAA standout was honored during the week as Fairfield goalkeeper Tyler Behring was named the USILA/Lids Team Sports National Defensive Player of the Week. Behring earned national accolades after making 19 saves off 25 shots on goal from UMass to help Fairfield to the 8-6 victory.
Including Major and Behring, four CAA players have now earned national honors from the USILA. Hofstra's Sam Llinares picked up National Offensive Player of the Week on February 23 while Towson's Spencer Parks earned the same recognition on March 23.
It's also the second time this season in which a CAA player has received recognition from NCAA.com. Towson's Tyler White was named NCAA.com National Defensive Player of the Week on March 8.
